Village Notice – CertainTeed

By | News, Uncategorized

The Village Council has today been notified by CertainTeed Saint-Gobain the gypsum wall-board plant in McAdam will cease production 28 August 2020 and the plant will be permanently closed by 28 February 2021.   This is devastating news for the community but even more so for the 59 employees at the Certainteed plant and the other employees of service companies that relied on the plant for work.  Roughly two thirds of the employees affected reside in McAdam while the remaining third reside in Fredericton, Harvey and St. Stephen.  Our hearts go out to all of you and your families during this time of uncertainty.

Council was advised this morning the reason for the closure was based on poor market conditions and the plant was working at 22 percent of its capacity.  The company has told Council they are committed to working closely with all employees to mitigate the closure by assisting them with career counselling and job opportunities at other Certainteed plants.

We have notified government officials and will be requesting a meeting with Premier Higgs and his staff to discuss the CertainTeed plant closure and together develop a strategy going forward to minimize the negative impacts of this closure on the members of our community affected directly and the Village as a whole.

We are all in this together and together we will get through this.

Second CPR Dedication Bench

Second CPR Dedication Bench

For nearly a century, the Canadian Pacific Railway, was a major employer within the Village of McAdam. Not only did the railway provide a livelihood for thousands of men and women, but also played a significant role in building the community.

In honour of the CPR workers, the McAdam Beautification Committee would like to erect a second CPR Dedication Bench for those with us, and those who have passed. Appropriately, the granite bench will be placed in “Whistle Stop Park”, where the names will be displayed for a lifetime.

The cost to purchase a name is $100. Please include the first and last name. Cash or cheques can be received at the McAdam Village Office, at 146 Saunders Rd, E6J-1L2, between 9am to 4pm weekdays. Email transfers can be sent to   We are able to accommodate 72 names on the bench.

Cancellation of the 2020 McAdam Lake Family Paddle

The 2020 McAdam Lake Family Paddle has become, unfortunately another victim of COVID-19.  To help minimize the opportunity for COVID-19 spread within our community, the Village of McAdam and the McAdam Heart and Home Corporation have decided to cancel the 2020 McAdam Lake Family Paddle.  It was not an easy decision as the paddle has gained a loyal and growing group of participants and sponsors wanting to have a family day while supporting a worthy charity.  Thank you ever so much for all your support of this event and we look forward to hosting the 2021 McAdam Lake Family Paddle.  We hope to see you there.

Due to Covid-19, the McAdam Railway Station will not be open to the public during the months of June and July 2020.  Our decision does not come easy, but is a necessary step to ensure that safety comes first for visitors and friends to our Village.

In accordance with the Department of Health Policies and Procedures, guidelines are being established that will hopefully make it possible to open the McAdam Railway Station at a later date.  Before the end of July, a public announcement will be made to advise the status moving forward with the Station being open or continuing to remain closed during the month of August.

Your co-operation and understanding during this time of uncertainty is very much appreciated.  Like you, we are also struggling with the ‘New Normal”, and our priority as well is to ensure the health and safety of everyone.  When we do re-open for visitors, it will be done in a well-planned manner in accordance with the Province of New Brunswick’s Covid-19 Operational Plan.

Please stay safe and continue to engage with us online through our Facebook site at and our website at  Updates will be provided as they become available.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Camping During COVID-19 – McAdam Campground

By | News, Uncategorized

The provincial government has given the approval for camping to take place, with strict regulations. Therefore, seasonal camping will commence Friday, May 15th with the following provincial requirements:

  • Social distancing remains in effect (2m/6ft away from those you do not reside with)
  • Seasonal camping is permitted for New Brunswick patrons only.
  • No overnight/short stay camping, or visitors.
  • All communal facilities are closed (laundry, shower, washrooms, outhouses, rec hall and playground).
  • The MEDC or the Government of New Brunswick, has the right to close the campground at any time.

For the health and safety of all patrons, it is important the following steps are adhered to, to keep the campground open.

Due to the pandemic, MEDC invites all seasonal campers to rake and clean their own lot. Without the student assistance this year, this would be a huge undertaking without your help. Sherry has been working hard, volunteering to rake the roads other areas. Additionally, MEDC would like to inform campers that the planned expansion will not take place at this time.

Thank you for your patience during these unusual times.

Attention Boaters and Campers on Spednic Lake

The Village of McAdam is in the process of purchasing a new dock for the boat launch at St Croix beach. It is presently being constructed by Excel Manufacturing in Harvey Station and should be ready for the summer boating season. The new dock will be 24 feet in length by 8 feet wide with 26 feet by 4 wide walkway, it is constructed of aluminum framing with wooden decking. Village Council applied for and received a $5000. grant from the Community Investment Fund to help with the cost of the project. Unfortunately, this amount only covers approximately 50% of the total and that is why we need assistance from those who access the lake via the St Croix launch.

In 2012 council solicited financial help from lake users to purchase badly needed concrete pads at the boat launch. Not surprisingly, a large number of people stepped up and helped with donations and volunteer work which enabled us to install the pads. Once again, we are seeking financial assistance from those people who use the St Croix boat launch. All donations of any denomination are welcome and all monies will go directly to the purchase of the dock. Unfortunately, until we have secured the total funds needed, the dock cannot be purchased. Therefore, at this time there will not be a dock in place at St Croix until enough funds have been raised. If you would like to help and make a financial donation please contact the village office at 784-2293 or you can e-transfer to
