September Newsletter
We hope everyone had a healthy and happy summer break. On behalf of the Staff and Parent School Support Committee (PSSC) we would like to welcome all the students back to McAdam High for another school year.
The staff of McAdam High would like to thank the students for a smooth transition into the new school year. We will continue to send our newsletter home on a monthly basis to keep parents and the community informed of school events. We hope for continued parental and public support where possible.
Following are the upcoming events and information items for the month of September:
We are going to continue to have a literacy period each morning for all students. All teachers and TA's will work with all grade levels to help promote literacy (1st semester) and numeracy (2nd semester) skills. We believe that these two skills that are fundamental to the growth of students as lifelong learners and feel that this time and effort will afford the students a great opportunity for growth in these vital areas.
Parent School Support Committee Elections were held on September 21st. The successful candidates will be announced in the next newsletter.
Booster shots are scheduled for September 22nd. All appropriate students were given a form by the newly appointed Public Health Nurse Monique LeBlanc. A special thanks goes out to Kim Greechan for her help and support of the Health Programs here at McAdam High. Kim has been reassigned to the Fredericton area. Best of luck in your future endeavors Kim.
A number of sporting activities have begun at the school. Soccer and Cross Country are in full swing. McAdam hosts their Cross Country meet on Friday, September 22nd at the train station. Thanks to all the staff, students and community members for your support with this event.
Harvey Studios will be taking individual and class photos on September 26th.
The PARTY Program will be held at the Harvey Recreation Center on September 27th. The goal of the program is to illustrate how negative choices may have serious consequences. All grade 9 students will be attending accompanied by chaperones.
We will be having our Safe School Week activities on the week of October 2nd and throughout the week the following activities will take place: ATV Safety Seminar, Mock Lockdown, Fire Drill/Evacuation, Survival Training and Walk to School/Spirit Day.
District 18 has adopted a new Behavior Tracking form for tracking and dealing with discipline issues. We have also implemented a form to report incidents of harrassment and bullying. Both initiatives are an attempt to better serve our students and to promote a healthy and safe learning environment for all students. If any parents would like to review either of these forms/policies please feel free to contact the school.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! It has recently come to our attention that many of our Sports Uniforms are missing (Soccer, Basketball, and Volleyball). Parents - if your son/daughter still has a uniform at home from last year, please return them as soon as possible. These uniforms are very expensive and not easily replaced. We need your help to maintain these uniforms, many of which were donated by local businesses and organizations.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call or drop by the school. We welcome your input and visits anytime.
